The North American AT-6 Texan, known as the Harvard in many Commonwealth and export air forces, is one of the most famous advanced trainer aircraft ever built. Although primarily used for pilot training during the Second World War, the aircraft was designed from the outset with the possibility of military operational use.

Following the war, the Texan proved exceptionally effective in counter-insurgency, close-support and Forward Air Control (FAC) missions thanks to its reliability, rugged construction and excellent handling characteristics. During the Korean War, USAF "Mosquito" squadrons employed armed Texans to direct air strikes against enemy targets.

The aircraft also saw combat service in numerous conflicts around the world. France operated armed Texans in Algeria, while Spain, Britain and Portugal used them in colonial and anti-insurgency operations in Africa. Texans also fought against communist forces in Greece, participated in the early Arab-Israeli wars on both sides of the conflict, and were involved in numerous uprisings, revolutions and military operations throughout South America.

This Special Hobby release focuses on some of the most interesting combat-operated Texans. Based on Academy plastic mouldings, the kit is enhanced with newly tooled injection-moulded canopies, 3D-printed components, resin parts and photo-etched details representing equipment and armament used by various air forces.

The selected marking options highlight the remarkable operational diversity of this iconic aircraft.
