A.W. Meteor NF Mk.11 'Nato Users'

Description

The prototype flew for the first time on May 31, 1950. The manufacturer assembled a total of 307 units which were supplied mainly to the Royal Air Force but also to the Air Force and the Belgian Air Force. These aircraft made it possible in particular for France and the United Kingdom to clear the flight range of jet night fighters. The Armstrong-Whitworth Meteor NF began to be retired from service in the United Kingdom in 1957 while in France they remained in service until 1963. Although these planes did not have a particularly exposed career, they were nevertheless actively involved in the air defence of Western Europe, especially against the risks of attack by Soviet bombers. Today Meteor NF belong to the collections of the RAF Museum of Hendon in the suburbs of London, while two devices are owned by the Musée de l'Air et de l'Espace du Bourget.
