It is the same palne numbred 16 instead of 11 because using a different engine (Le Rhône 9J). Here, under colours of the famous "LAFAYETTE Squadron". In 1914, despite the neutrality of the United States inregards with the conflict between the Central Powers to the Allies, many American volunteers willing to engage and fight against Germany alongside France. Consciously or not, they reproduce the action of the Marquis de La Fayette offering help to the "insurgents" in 1777, during the War of Independence. It is this stubborn will of young U.S. citizens that is at the origin of creation in Luxeuil-les-Bains, 20 April 1916, of the aviation unit N 124, better known under the "Lafayette Escadrille" name .
