Description

The Great Eastern was one of the most fascinating ships in maritime history and a remarkable achievement of 19th-century engineering. This strictly limited edition uses the original 1963 tooling, giving enthusiasts an authentic vintage modelling experience. Measuring 56.7 cm long and consisting of 222 parts, the model recreates the imposing liner with its paddle wheels, propeller, five funnels and six masts. Launched in 1858, the Great Eastern was the largest ship ever built at the time. It later became famous as a cable-laying ship and played a role in laying the first permanent transatlantic cable.
