Description
Type VII submarines were German submarines, the
construction of which began in 1936. The length of Type VII units, depending on
the subtype, varied from 64.5 m to 77.6 m, the width of 5.85 m to 7.3 m, and
underwater displacement - from 725 tons to 1181 tons. The maximum surface speed
of Type VII submarines was about 17 knots, and the maximum underwater speed was
about 8 knots. The main armament was 5 x 533 mm torpedo tubes with a total of
11–16 torpedoes carried aboard the ship. The secondary armament consists of 1 x
88 mm gun, 1 x 20 mm anti-aircraft gun or 1 x 37 mm gun, and 2 x 20 mm guns in
duplicate on the VII D and VII F.
