F8F-1B Bearcat
Description
Description: The F8F-1B Bearcat 87268 model kit represents the American Grumman F8F Bearcat, the last of Grumman's piston-engine carrier-based fighters. The XF8F-1 prototypes were ordered in November 1943, and the first one flew on August 21, 1944. Utilizing the Pratt & Whitney R-2800 Double Wasp engine, the same as used in their Hellcat and Tigercat designs, Grumman created a highly maneuverable and fast aircraft with a 30% greater rate of climb than the Hellcat.
