USS Iowa BB-61

Description

Iowa was launched August 27, 1942, and commissioned March 22 the following year. To avoid the case of the German battleship Tirpitz, the trials in the Chesapeake Bay. Moved to the Pacific in 1944 and joined the Pacific Fleet, participating in the Battle of the Marshall Islands of the Mariana Islands, the naval battle of the Battle of Leyte Gulf and other battles; involved in Korean War in 1950s, post-war use as training ship, soon to enter reserve; reactivated in the 1980s, April 17, 1989, Iowa turret explosion that killed 47 sailors; 1990, Iowa received downgrade notice; removed from the list of active duty warships on March 17, 2006 and transferred to a Texas Bay National Defense Reserve Fleet from the former group of warships, the future will become a floating museum.
