Historical Background: The USS Alaska, the first ship of the Alaska-class battlecruisers in the US Navy, was commissioned on June 17, 1944. Measuring a total length of 246.43 meters, with a displacement of 34,253 tons and a power of 150,000 horsepower, it could reach a maximum speed of 32 knots. At a speed of 15 knots, its range was 12,000 nautical miles. After the end of World War II, USS Alaska joined the Seventh Fleet and was decommissioned from active duty on February 17, 1947, ultimately being scrapped in the late 1950s.
