Antonov An-30B Ukrainian Air Forces

Description

The Antonov An-30, known by the NATO reporting name "Clank", was a specialised development of the An-24 designed for aerial survey, mapping and photographic reconnaissance missions. Developed by the Antonov Design Bureau in the late 1960s, it is instantly recognisable thanks to its distinctive glazed nose section housing the navigator's station and observation equipment.

Fitted with both vertical and oblique cameras, the aircraft was capable of collecting highly accurate photographic data for military reconnaissance, geodetic surveys and topographic mapping. It was also widely employed for civilian applications, including environmental and cartographic studies.

Combining reliable flight characteristics with specialised navigation systems, the An-30 enjoyed a long operational career in several countries. Its unique appearance and important role in aerial surveying make it one of the most distinctive aircraft derived from the Antonov family.
