Description

The Oscar II-class nuclear-powered cruise missile submarine, with an underwater displacement of more than 24,000 tons, is one of Russia's largest and most reliable submarines. This class of submarine carries 24 SS-N-19 cruise missiles with a range of 550 kilometers and can be launched underwater. Torpedo tubes can launch torpedoes and short-range anti-ship missiles. Between 1985 and 1999, a total of 11 Oscar II-class submarines were built. Three were retired and one was sunk (Kursk, two were in service in the North Sea Fleet, and the other five were in the Pacific Fleet.
