Description

The Typhoon-class ballistic missile nuclear-powered submarine is by far the largest submarine in the world and one of the most daunting weapons during the Cold War. Its design includes features that can sail under ice and break ice. Each submarine can carry 20 long-range ballistics with nuclear warheads. This missile has a range of nearly 10,000 kilometers and once pointed to the United States. The first ship of this class entered service in 1980 and joined the North Sea Fleet in December 1981. Between 1981 and 1989, six Typhoon-class submarines entered service one after another. The seventh ship has not been completed.
